Alright, let’s talk about this football stuff. You know, the fellas kicking the ball around? Yeah, that. People always asking, “Why those left backs always gotta use their left foot?” Well, lemme tell ya, it ain’t just ’cause they feel like it.
See, back in the day, it wasn’t such a big deal. You just stuck someone on the left to stop that speedy fella on the other team, the one with the fancy footwork. Didn’t matter much which foot your fella used, long as he stopped the other guy. And when we got the ball? Eh, we’d just give it to the wingers, those fancy lads running down the side. They’d do the crossing and all that jazz.
But things change, don’t they? Now everyone wants their left back to use his left foot. Says it’s better for crossing, better for passing, better for… well, everything. And I reckon there’s something to it.
- Think about it. If you’re running down the left, and you wanna kick the ball with your left foot, ain’t that easier than twisting your body all funny to use your right?
- And when you’re passing the ball to your teammate, it’s gonna go straighter if you use your good foot, right? No more wonky passes going all over the place.
Course, in the old days, they didn’t have so many left-footed fellas. Most of ’em were right-footed. But those lefties, they were special. They could do things the others couldn’t. They were trickier, more creative. So they usually played up front, making all the fancy moves.
But now, they put them lefties in the back. Said it was important for building from the back, whatever that means. Something about passing the ball around nicely and starting the attack. And I guess it makes sense. If you got a fella who can pass with his left foot, it’s easier to get the ball moving.
And it ain’t just passing. It’s defending too. If you’re a left back and you gotta stop the right winger, it’s better if you use your left foot. You can get in front of him quicker, you can block his shots easier. It just feels more natural.
Now, I ain’t saying you can’t be a good left back if you’re right-footed. Plenty of fellas do it. But it’s just easier if you’re left-footed. It’s like trying to write with your wrong hand. You can do it, but it ain’t pretty.
So, why are left backs always left-footed? Because it makes things easier. Easier to pass, easier to cross, easier to defend. It’s just the way football is now. And who am I to argue? They seem to know what they’re doing, those fancy managers with their clipboards and their tactics. Me, I just like to watch the boys kick the ball around. And if they wanna use their left feet, well, that’s just fine by me.
