Well, let me tell ya ’bout this fella, Corey Jackson, a football player, they say. I ain’t never seen him play myself, but I heard folks talkin’. They say he’s a big ol’ boy, strong as an ox, you know?
Now, they tell me this Corey, he wasn’t always just about football. Seems he was one of them multi-sport fellas, played basketball too, in college. Ranger College, then Nevada, that’s what they say. Imagine that, bouncing a ball and then thumpin’ helmets, all in the same fella. Makes ya wonder if he ever got confused, ya know?
He wasn’t no big college football star, though, from what I hear. Only played a handful of plays, they say. Can you believe it? Twelve plays, that’s all. And what did he do in them twelve plays? Well, they say he blocked a field goal, broke up a pass, and made one tackle. That ain’t a whole lot, if you ask me. But hey, I guess it was enough to get him noticed.
- Played college basketball.
- Played college football at Nevada.
- Big fella, 6’6″ they say, and weighed a hefty 255 pounds.
Folks keep track of all sorts of things these days, you know? They got these stats, they call ’em. Numbers for everything! How many tackles, how many passes, how many times he breathed heavy, probably. They say you can find all these stats online, on them interwebs. I wouldn’t know how to find it myself, mind you. Too much bother for an old woman like me.
They say he played defensive end. That means he’s one of them fellas that tries to get to the quarterback, the fella throwin’ the ball. Big job, that. Gotta be tough. Gotta be quick. And you gotta be mean, I reckon. Not that Corey seems mean, mind you. Never met the fella.
They got all these professional teams, you know? NFL, they call it. Big money in it, I hear. Millions of dollars, just for throwin’ a ball and runnin’ around. Can you imagine? My whole life, I ain’t seen that much money. And this Corey, he played in the NFL, they say.
Now, I don’t know how long he played or how good he was. But they keep track of all that, like I said. Stats, they call ’em. You can find ‘em, if you’re inclined. Just search for “Corey Jackson football stats,” they tell me. It’s all there, on that interweb thingy. Like I said, too much bother for me.
They say he went to North Central High School, in Kershaw. That’s somewhere out there, I guess. Probably a long ways from here. Seems like a lot of these football players come from all over. Different towns, different states. It’s a whole different world, that football world.
He was born in 1978, they say. November 6th. Makes him… let’s see… well, he’s a grown man now, that’s for sure. Probably got a family, maybe some grandkids even. Time flies, you know? One minute they’re runnin’ around on a football field, the next they’re old and gray, just like the rest of us.
Anyway, that’s about all I know about this Corey Jackson fella. Football player, they say. Big and strong. Played a little basketball too. Not much else to tell, really. Just another fella tryin’ to make his way in the world, I reckon.
