Well, let me tell you a little about this young feller, Justin Reaves, though most folks call him Austin Reaves. Now, I ain’t one for all that fancy basketball talk, but I’ll try my best to explain his story the way I know it. Austin, he was born on May 29, 1998, and now he’s a big-time basketball player for the Los Angeles Lakers, y’know, that team out in California. But the thing is, he didn’t get picked by no big fancy team at first like most others do. He didn’t get drafted in the 2021 NBA draft, no sir, but he sure made a name for himself later on. That’s the kind of grit this young man has.
He was born in a little town, and his journey to the top wasn’t easy, no sir. He went to Cedar Ridge High School over in Newark, Arkansas. Now, he ain’t one to brag, but let me tell you, he was good! Real good. Won them state titles two years in a row. That’s something, ain’t it? But like many folks, he had to struggle a bit. When he was a freshman over at Wichita State, he had a bad shoulder injury, had to get surgery on it. Can you believe it? Hurt his shoulder playin’ basketball, but did that stop him? Not a chance! He kept going and even ended up playin’ for Oklahoma Sooners too.
Now, when he joined the Lakers, it wasn’t with a big ol’ contract like some players get. Nope, he was just an undrafted free agent, which means the Lakers gave him a shot when no one else would. That’s where the real story starts, if you ask me. Reaves worked hard and showed them what he was made of. And that led him to playin’ for the national team in the 2023 FIBA World Cup. They said he was only the third undrafted player ever to make it to a U.S. national team with NBA players. How about that? What a story that is, right?
Aside from all that fancy basketball stuff, folks like to know a little about the man behind the game. Austin, well, he grew up a Lakers fan. That’s right, he loved that team even before he was part of ’em. And let me tell you, it don’t get much better than that! He comes from a good family too. His mama’s name is Nicole Wilkett, and his daddy is Brian Reaves. Them folks did good raising him, no doubt about it.
Now, you might think that’s where his story ends, but I reckon it’s just the beginning. Austin Reaves is still young, and he’s makin’ a name for himself. Who knows where this boy’s career will take him? One thing’s for sure—he’s a fighter, and I wouldn’t be surprised if we hear even more about him in the future.
Well, that’s all I know about him. But I reckon he’ll keep on impressin’ folks, just like he’s been doin’ all his life. So, if you’re a fan of basketball, keep your eyes on Austin Reaves. This boy’s got something special about him!
