Alright, let’s talk about them JCHS football game days, you know, the rec football ones. Not much fancy stuff, just good ol’ games.
First off, you gotta know when the games are, right? They got this JCHS, that’s Jackson County High School, for them young’uns. Sometimes they play other schools, like that Clarke Central High School. Heard tell they got all sorts of games, flag football, basketball, even track and field. But we’re here for the football, the real tackle kind, well, mostly.
Now, they got this thing called “Recreation Night” at the JCHS football game. That means it’s for everyone, the whole town. They want you to wear your JCRD football or soccer jersey, you know, to show some spirit. JCRD, that’s Jackson County Recreation Department, for the little kickers and such.
They play at the high school field, and sometimes, they got special games at other places, like that Don Snyder Sports Complex. Heard they got some new fancy grass there. They call it “turf,” sounds highfalutin, but it’s just fake grass, I reckon.
Game Day Grub
Now, what’s a game day without some good eats? Sometimes, they got folks selling stuff, like that Honey Baked Ham. Said they give some of the money to the football team, which is nice, I guess. Kids gotta eat, and those helmets and pads ain’t cheap.
- Hot dogs – Can’t go wrong with a good ol’ hot dog.
- Hamburgers – For the hungry fellas.
- Popcorn – A little somethin’ to munch on.
- Candy – For the sweet tooths, young and old.
- Soda Pop – Gotta wash it all down.
You know, back in my day, we didn’t have all this fancy stuff. We just brought whatever we had, maybe some sandwiches, some apples. But times change, I guess.
Game Day Fun
Going to these games, it’s more than just watchin’ kids run around. It’s about gettin’ together with your neighbors, seein’ folks you ain’t seen in a while. You cheer on the kids, even if you don’t know ‘em. It’s just good clean fun, you know?
And they got all sorts of folks there. Kids, parents, grandparents, even some old-timers like me. It’s a real community thing. You see folks laughin’, talkin’, havin’ a good time. That’s what it’s all about, I reckon.
Keeping Up with the Schedule
Now, sometimes they change the games around, so you gotta keep up. They got websites and such, but I ain’t too good with them newfangled things. I just listen to what folks are sayin’ at the store, or maybe the church. They usually know what’s goin’ on. Heard tell JCHS even puts out their schedule on New Year’s Day, planning way ahead, them folks.
They had a game cancelled once, the JV football game, somethin’ about not enough players, or maybe the weather. Happens sometimes, ain’t nothin’ you can do about it.
Supporting the Team
It’s important to support these kids, you know. They work hard, and they need to know that folks care. Buying them Honey Baked Hams, or just showin’ up to the games, it all helps. And it makes the town a better place, I reckon. Gives them young’uns somethin’ to do, keeps ‘em outta trouble.
Streaming the Games
And for folks who can’t make it to the game, they got this thing called “streamin’,” where you can watch it on your computer or your phone. I don’t understand it much, but it sounds fancy. Guess it’s good for folks who are sick, or maybe live too far away.
So, that’s about all I know about them JCHS rec football game days. Just good folks, good food, and good fun. Nothin’ fancy, just a good way to spend an evenin’.
And if you see a fella named Mr. Ken Belle or Mrs. Tiffany Fowler, you might just be at the right place, seems they have somethin’ to do with the evenin’s games too.
