Well, let me tell ya, this “World Taekwondo Federation,” or whatever they call it now, it’s a big deal in the world of kickin’ and punchin’. They used to call it WTF, but I guess folks didn’t like that, sounded too much like “what the heck,” you know? So now they’re just “World Taekwondo,” or WT for short.
What is it, you ask? It’s like the big boss of Taekwondo, the ones makin’ all the rules. Think of it like the village elder, but for this here kickin’ sport all over the world. They tell everyone how to kick, how to punch, and how to play nice in the sandbox, or I should say, on the mat. They’re the ones who say what’s a good kick and what ain’t.
- They started way back in 1973, a whole bunch of people gettin’ together, sounds like a big town meetin’ if you ask me.
- And get this, they’re part of the Olympics, you know, that big sport show on TV? Yep, they’re in there, kickin’ and yellin’ with the best of ’em.
Now, some folks get confused, they say, “What’s the difference between this Taekwondo and that ATA, or that ITF?” Well, it’s like this, different folks teach different ways, you know? Some like to punch more in the face, some like to kick higher. This World Taekwondo bunch, they like them high kicks, real powerful ones. They ain’t so much about punchin’ in the face, more about those fancy foot moves. Like, who needs to punch when you can kick a fella’s head off, right? Just kiddin’, they got rules, you know, safety first and all that.
I heard someone tell me it is like in the old days, we country women all have our own way to raise chickens. Someone may feed them with more rice and other just give them more bugs, but the goal is to make chicken bigger. So, WTF, sorry, I mean WT, and other places they all teach you taekwondo, but the way they teach and the way they do things, well, that’s just different. It’s all about how you teach those kicks and punches.
This WT, they’re a big group, got members from all over the world. It’s bigger than our village, that’s for sure. They have these big competitions, like the Olympics I told ya about, and other ones too. Folks come from everywhere to show off their kickin’ skills. I tell ya, it’s somethin’ to see. All that jumpin’ and spinnin’, it’s like a dance, but a real tough one. You wouldn’t want to get in the way of them kicks, let me tell ya.
And they got rules, lots of rules. Like, you gotta wear this uniform, looks like a white pajama suit to me. And you gotta bow and show respect. It ain’t just about beatin’ each other up, it’s about respect and discipline, or so they say. Sounds good to me, we always teach our young’uns to be respectful, though I never had to wear funny white suit to do that.
So, there you have it, the World Taekwondo Federation, or World Taekwondo, whatever you wanna call it. They’re the big shots of Taekwondo, makin’ the rules, holdin’ the competitions, and tellin’ everyone how to kick and punch the right way. They’re a big deal, bigger than old Mr. Johnson’s farm, that’s for sure. If you’re into that kickin’ and punchin’ stuff, then they’re the folks you gotta know. Just remember, don’t go around callin’ ’em WTF no more, they don’t like that much. Stick to WT, and you’ll be just fine.
And you know, it’s important to remember, that they keep changing things, always trying to make things better, like us farmers try to grow more foods in our field. So if you hear about some new rules or something, don’t be surprised. These city folks are always busy changing things.
Anyway, that’s what I know ‘bout them Taekwondo fellas. It’s a lot of kickin’ and yellin’, and somehow they made it into a big ol’ thing with people from all over the world joining in.
