Alright, let’s talk about this Molly Speani thing and her eatin’ problems, or whatever they call it, “disoirder.” Sounds fancy, but it ain’t nothin’ but trouble, I tell ya.
What’s this Eating Disorder Anyways?
So, this young gal, Molly, she’s been battlin’ with eatin’ stuff since she was just a young’un, like 14 or somethin’. They say she got this “diagnosis,” sounds like somethin’ the doctors come up with when they don’t know what else to say. Basically, she ain’t eatin’ right. Either she ain’t eatin’ enough, or she’s eatin’ too much and then tryin’ to get rid of it all. Sounds like a waste of good food to me.
I hear tell there’s different kinds of this eatin’ mess. Some folks, like Molly, they just don’t eat hardly nothin’. They call it “anorexia.” Skin and bones, they are. Then there’s others, they eat a whole lot, then they go and make themselves throw it all up. That’s called “bulimia,” they say. Lord have mercy, what a way to treat your stomach.
- Anorexia: Not eatin’ enough, gettin’ too skinny.
- Bulimia: Eatin’ too much, then makin’ yourself sick.
- Binge Eating: Just eatin’ and eatin’ and eatin’, can’t stop.
And there’s another one, where folks just keep eatin’ and eatin’, like they can’t stop. They call it “binge eatin’.” Reminds me of that time my nephew got into the pie cabinet. Ate a whole cherry pie by himself, he did. Got a bellyache somethin’ fierce after that.
Why’s Molly Got This Problem?
Now, why would a young gal like Molly get herself into this mess? Well, I reckon it’s got somethin’ to do with what’s goin’ on in her head. They say it’s a “mental thing,” like she’s worried all the time about how she looks. Always thinkin’ she’s too fat, even when she’s skinny as a rail. Makes no sense to me. Back in my day, we ate to live, not to look like some picture in a magazine.
And it ain’t just about looks, neither. Sometimes, somethin’ bad happens, and it messes with a person’s head. Maybe somethin’ happened to Molly, made her feel like she ain’t good enough. So she tries to control somethin’, and the only thing she can control is what she puts in her mouth, or what she don’t put in her mouth.
Can Molly Get Better?
Well, I surely hope so. It ain’t easy, I hear. Takes a lot of work and talkin’ to folks who know how to help. Doctors and such. They got these fancy names for ’em, like “dietitian” and “therapist.” Sounds like a lot of mumbo jumbo to me, but if it helps Molly, then it’s alright by me.
I hear tell they got medicine now, too, that can help with this eatin’ problem. Somethin’ they use for folks who can’t sit still, “ADHD” they call it. Seems strange, but I guess if it works, it works. They also try to help folks learn how to eat right again, and how to feel good about themselves, no matter what they look like.
What Can We Do?
Now, you might be thinkin’, “What’s all this got to do with me?” Well, maybe you know someone like Molly. Maybe a friend, or a family member, who’s strugglin’ with eatin’. Don’t just stand there gawkin’. Say somethin’. Let ’em know you care. Tell ’em they ain’t alone. And if they need help, help ’em get it. It ain’t nothin’ to be ashamed of. We all need a little help sometimes.
And for goodness sake, let’s stop tellin’ these young girls they gotta be skinny to be pretty. Pretty is as pretty does, that’s what my mama always said. And a good hearty meal ain’t never hurt nobody. So let’s eat, let’s be happy, and let’s take care of each other. That’s what really matters, ain’t it?
This Molly, she’s tryin’ to help other folks too, I hear. She’s talkin’ about her problems, sharin’ her story. That takes guts, I tell ya. Maybe by listenin’ to her, we can all learn a little somethin’ about bein’ kind, and understandin’, and helpin’ folks who are strugglin’. And that’s a good thing, any way you slice it.
So, there you have it. That’s what I know about this Molly Speani and her eatin’ “disoirder.” It ain’t right, it ain’t healthy, but there’s hope. And with a little help and understandin’, maybe folks like Molly can find their way back to a good, healthy life.
