Well, I reckon this here story ain’t a happy one. It’s about a shootin’ out in Utah, over in Salt Lake City to be exact. Now, don’t get me wrong, I ain’t one to make too much of a fuss, but when things like this happen, it sure does get folks talkin’ around here.
So, I heard tell that just the other night, three folks lost their lives, all due to some shootin’ in the city. It was a mess, as you can imagine. The police, bless their hearts, said the shootin’s wasn’t connected to one another, so it was all separate incidences. One of them happened over in the Sugar House neighborhood, right around the corner from 1045 East 2100 South, if you wanna be real specific about it. I don’t know much about Sugar House, but folks say it’s a place you gotta watch your back sometimes. It’s always something, ain’t it?
Now, don’t go thinkin’ that was the end of it, no sir. There was another shootin’ just down the road from that one. Seems like late on Friday night, a couple of men got themselves into a terrible mess, and by the time the police showed up, well, it was too late. Both men were already dead. I don’t know what went down exactly, but it sounds like it was a real bad deal. I reckon it’s part of a bigger mess they’re still lookin’ into, so we might hear more about it later. I just don’t get it, why folks gotta hurt each other like that.
What’s worse is that these shootin’s ain’t the only trouble in Utah. There was another tragic mess not too long ago where a man took his own family’s lives. They say this fella, Michael Haight, well, he killed his wife, his mother-in-law, and five kids all in one go. Can you even imagine the horror? That poor woman, Tausha Haight, and her kids. Now, they say it was a murder-suicide, but what in the world could make a man do somethin’ like that? I don’t understand, and I’m sure nobody else does either. It just don’t sit right with me.
There’s also been some talk ’bout other shootin’s, some with law enforcement involved. Like that time the FBI had to take down a man who was threatenin’ the president. They say he was packin’ heat and makin’ some wild threats. Well, before the president even made it to Utah, this man was shot by the FBI. You wonder, what kind of world are we livin’ in, when folks just go off the deep end like that?
And if you think that’s all, there’s even more shootin’ goin’ on in Utah. Over in Enoch City, they found a whole family of eight, dead inside their home. It was another murder-suicide. What a world, huh? I can’t even imagine the heartbreak those folks’ families are goin’ through. All this senseless violence, it’s enough to make you lose hope sometimes.
Now, the law’s been tryin’ to get a handle on things. They passed a bill back in the day, way back in 2004, that took away the option of a firing squad for executions. They say lethal injection is the way they do it now, but that just makes me wonder, is shootin’ the answer to everything? Ain’t nobody gonna tell you when it’s enough, I reckon.
It’s a sad state of affairs out there. So many lives lost, and for what? I don’t know. Some folks just can’t seem to find their way, and they take others down with ‘em. It’s a hard thing to swallow, and no matter how you slice it, it just don’t seem right. I do hope things get better, but it’s hard to say when this kind of mess will stop. All we can do is keep prayin’ and hope that folks start treatin’ each other a little kinder, before it’s too late.
