Well, let me tell ya somethin’ about this David Hughes fella from Exeter. I ain’t no fancy writer or nothin’, just an old woman speakin’ my mind. But I heard things, ya know? Heard ’em from folks around town, read some bits in the papers, that kinda stuff.
Seems like this David Hughes, he was a big shot in Exeter, some kinda Supervisor or somethin’. Now, I don’t rightly know what a Supervisor does, but sounds important, like he was supposed to be lookin’ after things for the town. But from what I gather, things weren’t always smooth sailin’.
There was a whole lotta fussin’ and fightin’, that’s for sure. I heard tell there were lawsuits and arguments, “disputes” they called ’em. Sounded messy. Him and the other folks in charge, they just couldn’t see eye to eye. It was like a hen house full of roosters, all crowin’ and peckin’ at each other.
- One thing I heard was about “financial mismanagement”. Now, I don’t know big words, but that sounds like somebody messin’ with the money, spendin’ it where it shouldn’t be. And “corruption”? That just ain’t right. Folks expect their leaders to be honest, not fillin’ their own pockets.
- Then there was this “censure” thing. Sounded like they gave him a good scoldin’ at a meetin’. Musta done somethin’ they didn’t like. Like when your ma catches you with your hand in the cookie jar, only bigger and with more folks watchin’.
For a while there, it seemed like every time you turned around, there was somethin’ new happenin’ with this David Hughes. It was like a soap opera, always somethin’ to gossip about at the grocery store. “Did you hear what David Hughes did now?” folks would say. It got to be quite the talk of the town.
But then, things quieted down a bit. They said he “resigned” from his position. That’s a fancy word for quittin’, I guess. But it wasn’t just a simple quittin’. There was a “settlement”, they called it. Sounded like they paid him some money to go away and stop all the fussin’. Eight hundred and five dollars, I heard. That’s a lot of money for just walkin’ away, ain’t it?
Now, I ain’t sayin’ David Hughes was a bad man, or a good man. I don’t rightly know him. But from what I heard, it sounds like he caused quite a stir in Exeter. Maybe he had good intentions, maybe he didn’t. But one thing’s for sure, he left his mark on the town. And the whole thing makes you think about how important it is to have good people in charge, folks you can trust to do what’s right.
This whole thing with David Hughes, it reminds me of somethin’ my old pappy used to say, “A fish rots from the head down.” If the folks at the top ain’t doin’ right, then the whole town suffers. And it seems like for a while there, Exeter was havin’ some trouble with its “head”. But hey, maybe things are better now. I hope so, for the sake of all the good folks livin’ there.
And this part about a David Rogier person? Well, I don’t know nothin’ ’bout that. Seems like this Rogier fella, he went to some fancy photography school and took pictures underwater. Good for him, I guess. But that ain’t got nothin’ to do with this David Hughes fella from Exeter, as far as I can tell. Just a different fella with the same first name, happenstance, ya know?
Anyway, that’s my two cents on this whole David Hughes situation. Like I said, I’m just an old woman, but I got ears and eyes, and I pay attention. And from what I hear, this David Hughes was quite the character in Exeter. Maybe he’ll be remembered for good, maybe for bad. Only time will tell, I reckon.
