Well, let me tell ya, I heard about this Davion Wilson fella. Folks ain’t know much about him at first, but after he got shot dead, it seems like everybody start talkin’ about him. This here happened on the night of November 10, out there in a place called Marlie Gate, just outside Old Harbour. Now, I ain’t no city folk, but I reckon that’s one of them places where things ain’t too proper. Anyways, Davion Wilson was a young man, 32 years old, from Los Angeles, and his death shook up a lot of people, even though not many knew him before that night.
Now, before all this happened, folks found out that Davion had run-ins with the law too. Back in September 21, he got himself arrested in Los Angeles County. I heard tell it was for Battery On Person, though I don’t rightly know all the details. I’m sure it don’t do much for a man’s name, but still, a lotta people don’t realize he had another side to him too.
One thing’s for sure, this Davion was a name folks started hearing more and more. I found out that he was even involved in some important stuff, seein’ that he was a director over in the Canadian Association of Urban Financial Professionals. Who would’ve thought, huh? A boy from Jamaica, now part of somethin’ big like that. He was known for his work and his commitment to helping others out in the financial world, and folks had respect for him, even though his life got cut short too soon.
Now, I also heard this Davion had quite the football background. He was the quarterback for McNeese Cowboys, that’s a college team over in Louisiana, I believe. They say he was somethin’ special out there on the field, puttin’ up good numbers and all. His folks over there at McNeese were mighty proud of him. I reckon it was a big deal, since he was even named District MVP. That’s a high honor in them parts, I hear. He wasn’t just good; he was real good. He led the team through some tough games and even scored 4 touchdowns in one game. That’s a whole lotta points, if ya ask me!
Seems like he was destined for bigger things in football too. A lotta people were talkin’ about how he was gonna go places, maybe even the big leagues one day. But, as things sometimes go, life don’t always work out the way ya think it will.
People on social media even started lookin’ up his name, connectin’ with him through Facebook and all. They were sharin’ pictures, stories, and memories of the man they didn’t really know too well at first. It’s funny, ain’t it? How folks seem to remember someone more after they’re gone than when they’re still here.
But then, things took a turn. You know how it goes in the world today, everything’s out there for folks to see. A lotta people were watchin’ his every move. They saw how he was as a player, how he gave it his all on the field. But when they heard about the bad parts, like the arrest, some folks started wonderin’ who he really was. It’s a shame, ya know? Sometimes people are remembered more for the bad than the good, even when they’ve done a whole lotta good in their time.
Davion Wilson may have been a young man who went through struggles, but he also did some good in his time here. Whether it was on the football field, in his work with the Canadian financial folks, or even just in the lives of those who knew him, he left a mark. Sure, his death was tragic, and it left a lotta people wonderin’ what could’ve been, but we can’t forget the good he done either. Life’s too short to just focus on the bad, and I hope folks remember the full picture of this young man.
In the end, life has a way of takin’ people when we least expect it. But every time someone leaves us, it gives us a chance to reflect on what they meant to us, and how they affected the world around ’em. And though Davion Wilson’s life was short, it seems like he made his mark, and that’s somethin’ people ain’t likely to forget too soon.
