Alright, let’s talk about this… uh… skelton bseball, or whatever you young folks call it these days. I ain’t no fancy sports writer, so don’t expect none of that highfalutin language. I’m just gonna tell it to ya straight, like it is.
Now, from what I gather, this Skelton fella, Dustin Skelton, that’s his name, he plays this baseball. You know, that game with the stick and the ball? Yeah, that one. He ain’t no spring chicken, this Dustin. They say he’s 27 years old. Twenty-seven! Back in my day, 27 was old enough to have a whole gaggle of kids and a farm to run.
Anyways, this Dustin, he’s a catcher. That means he squats down behind home plate and catches the ball. Sounds like a pain in the rear end to me, but hey, to each their own. They say he bats right-handed and throws right-handed too. R/R, they call it. Sounds like a train schedule to me.
This boy, he’s been around the block a few times, you know? He ain’t some rookie straight outta high school. Seems he played for some college team, the Texas State Bobcats, I think they were called. Then, he got himself drafted by a big-league team, the Diamondbacks. Heard they traded him to the Cardinals later on. Seems like these fellas get shuffled around like a deck of cards.
Now, I heard tell this Skelton fella wasn’t no big shot when he was young. They say he wasn’t “lightly recruited,” whatever that means. Sounds like nobody wanted him much. But he worked his way up, I guess. Got drafted in the eighth round back in 2009. Eighth round! That don’t sound too high to me, but I ain’t no expert. Then, he got drafted again later on, in the 18th round this time. Seems like he just kept on playing.
- He played for Texas State Bobcat
- He was drafted by the Diamondbacks in 2009
- He was traded to the Cardinals
This Dustin Skelton, he’s a sturdy fella, too. They say he’s 6 feet tall and weighs 202 pounds. That’s a big boy! He’d be good for haulin’ hay bales, that’s for sure. But no, he’s out there hittin’ balls and catchin’ ’em. Go figure.
I heard some stories about him playin’ in the minor leagues too. You know, those teams that ain’t quite the big leagues. He was drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays in 2016, way down in the 36th round. Seems like he bounced around a bit. He played for Miami Marlins too, or somethin’ like that.
And he won some championships too, this Dustin. He helped some team called the Bulldogs win a state title. And he won another one with some academy team, Columbia Academy, I think it was. Seems like he knows how to win, this fella. Pitched all eight innings in one game and didn’t let nobody score no earned runs. That’s pretty good, even I know that.
Now, I ain’t sure what all these numbers and stats mean. They got all sorts of numbers for batting and fielding and whatnot. It’s all Greek to me. But I do know one thing: this Skelton fella, he’s been playin’ this baseball for a long time. He must love it, or he wouldn’t still be at it.
And speaking of old fellas, I heard about this other baseball player, Boggs, they called him. He played for a long time too, 18 seasons they said! And he was an All-Star 12 times! That’s a lot of star-studded games, I tell ya. Guess some folks just got baseball in their blood.
You know, they say baseball uniforms were first worn way back in 1849 by some fellas in New York. 1849! That’s ancient history! Can you imagine? And they’re still playin’ this game today. Must be somethin’ special about it.
Anyways, that’s all I know about this skelton bseball and this Dustin Skelton fella. He seems like a hard-workin’ boy who loves to play the game. And that’s good enough for me. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go feed the chickens.
