Alright, let’s talk about this Tommy Paul fella. Now, I ain’t no tennis expert, ya hear? I just watch what’s on the TV sometimes when I ain’t busy with the chickens and the garden. But this Tommy, he’s been on the TV a fair bit lately, so I figured I’d tell ya what I know.
First off, Tommy Paul, that’s his name. Sounds like a good ol’ American name, right? He’s a tennis player, one of them fellas who whacks that little yellow ball back and forth over a net. Now, I tried playin’ tennis once, back when I was a young’un. Swung that racket so hard I almost knocked myself silly! These fellas like Tommy, they make it look easy, but I tell ya, it ain’t. Not for this old gal, anyway.
Tommy, he’s pretty good at it, this tennis thing. They say he’s ranked number 12 in the world. Number 12! That’s a whole lotta people he’s better than. And he’s got a few trophies too, they call ’em “ATP Tour titles.” Sounds fancy, don’t it? He won four of them. Good for him, I say.
He was born in 1997, so he’s still a young fella. May 17th, to be exact. Same day my cousin Billy was born, only he was born way back in ’48. Bless his heart, Billy’s gone now. But Tommy, he’s still around, hittin’ them tennis balls.

- He’s also been to the Olympics. Won a medal there too, I think.
- And get this, he’s even been on somethin’ called Netflix. A show called “Break Point.” My grandkids are always watchin’ that Netflix thing. They say Tommy talked about some not-so-nice stuff that happens in sports. Well, I reckon there’s bad apples everywhere, even in tennis.
Now, they also got this other Tommy, Tommy Hilfiger. He ain’t the same fella, mind you. This Tommy, he makes clothes and backpacks and such. My grandson, he’s got one of them Tommy Hilfiger backpacks. Says it’s real cool. Kids these days, always wantin’ the fancy stuff.
But back to Tommy Paul. Seems like he’s been playin’ tennis since he was a kid. They call it a “stand-out junior career.” Means he was good even when he was little. Well, I guess that makes sense. You don’t get to be number 12 in the world by just pickin’ up a racket one day.
He’s also got somethin’ called a “doubles ranking.” That’s when they play two on a side, like in ping pong. He’s ranked 97th in that. Not as good as his singles ranking, but still pretty good, I reckon. He achieved that ranking back in September of 2022. And his best singles ranking, that number 12, he got that in October of 2023.
So there ya have it. That’s what I know about Tommy Paul. He’s a good tennis player, American fella, young and strong. He’s won some trophies, been to the Olympics, and even been on TV. And he ain’t the same as that Tommy Hilfiger fella who makes clothes. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go check on them chickens. They’re probably gettin’ into somethin’ they shouldn’t be.
